Interview with Khalid Chandio

Interview with Khalid Chandio Bureau chief of Sindh TV

By Sadam Solangi

Khalid Chandio is a journalist, anchorperson and ex Left wing activist. He is old Hyderabadian, who ahve been living in the suburbs of the city. Chandio was born at Bachal Chandio village (Qasimabad), and got earlier education from Ismail Soomro School Qasimabad. He did his matriculation from Noor Muhammad High School, intermediate from Muslim College, Masters in Sociology from Sindh University. He spent fifteen years as worker in Left wing progressive party (Communist Party of Pakistan). He started the career as journalist from the Daily Khadim-e-Wattan an eveninger of Kawish group some fifteen years ago. He also served as computer operator in Ibrat newspaper. He is currently serving as bureau Chief, Director, Administrator and Anchor in Sindh TV.

Q: Why did you join this field of media?
A: As I was a left wing political activist, therefore I had deep knowledge regarding social and public issues and conflicts in the society. To understand and explore the state and public issues, along with my livelihood, I got space in journalism and availed it.

Q: Is Sindhi media playing its constructive role in our Sindhi society, if not why? If yes how?
A: There is a progressive and constructive role of print and electronic media in our Sindhi society. It plays an inevitable role to spread the knowledge and information about economy and expose the social evils and interpret, evaluate and analyse the political issues of society. Sindhi had been vocal in taking up the problems of down trodden people and Sindh issues. At the same time, some demerits are also there in Sindhi media. It, somehow, makes compromise with the status quo and feudal or political power on the sake of problems of lower class or unprivileged class.

Q: What is difference between media of 1980-90 and current media?
A:The sources to obtain information in media of 1980-90 were limited and  Print media was the only source for common man for easy access information and what was happening in the country as well as in over all in the world. Now due to modern technology and the best use of intellect in current media, common people feel no difficulty in accessing the information and knowledge. This has also made news-gathering easy. At the same time the audience and reader has also become more demanding

Q: How you will define freedom of expression in Sindhi media? Share your opinion.
A: Except the fundamental conflicts and controversies in the society, yes it is free in expanding the knowledge about the public issues in society. Yet it is not free in the matters of religion, establishment, and other policies of country. Urdu media, in comparison with Sindhi media, uses the freedom of expression on above mentioned issues because of some privileges to Urdu language.

Q: Media considered as the fourth pillar of state, what is status of Sindhi media in this regard?
A:In the state of Pakistan, our Sindhi media is small in size and volume. Sindhi media has not enough freedom to broadcast the live programs of government policies and other activities. It would not be wrong to say that it is not fourth pillar of state.

Q: What is position of ethics in  media? Is it practiced properly?
A: Media is not practicing as per the code of conduct and ethics in the state at all. The lord system or feudal system is dominant factor in media. Thus indirectly or directly it is governed by those powerful authorities of society. On the name of freedom media has forgotten its laws and ethics that it broadcasts without predicting or forecasting the negative influences and consequences on the basis of sentiments of people.

Q: How media is the mirror of society? Elaborate with specific reference of Sindhi media.
A:  Yes, media is mirror of society. It is the reflection of social problems and diseases. Through media, people raise the voice against the illicit acts. Such as, Kala Bagh dam, 1991 issue, Sindhi language issue, misconducts of landlords, and the issues of misbehavior of police in the countryside, and only media reflects these issues. As media broadcast the Kasur issue of sex scandal of innocent children properly.

Q: Is there any message for youth of Sindh?

A: “It is easy to think, it is hard to act, but the hardest thing in the world is to act in accordance with your thinking.” Youth of Sindh must be practical in all the fields, especially, journalism. The deep study of things helps us to analyze the things in the society and in our young generation there is dire need of study in general perspective along with the specialization. The skills and expertness in modern technology is also important as well as necessary to keep a pace with other nations in the world. Our youth has to get out of imaginative and fancy world and participate in the rational and logical existing world. And this can enhance and enable our youth to be more competitive and challenging in the state.

INTERVIEW: Shahid Qayoom By Rehmat

Interview
Do every work with passion and keen interest: Shahid Qayoom

By Rehmat Ali

Shahid Qayoom Memon from Kandiaro was born November 11, 1981. He got primary and middle education from his native village, did intermediate from Qasimabad College. In 1999 he sought admission in Federal College of Arts & Design (FCAD), now called as Center of excellence in Arts & Design (CEAD). After studying there eighteen months, he decided to go National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore, where obtained a degree of Communication Design in 2005. Afterwards he rendered his services one year in set designing at AAG channel Karachi. In 2007 he was appointed a lecturer in the institute of Arts & Design, Sindh University Jamshoro, and after the half of year appointed as a lecturer in CEAD, where became the head of the Department of Communication Design in 2010. To date he is serving there as an art teacher and head of Department.

What initially captured your imagination about Art?
The Art and its all forms like Communication Design etc. for me are intriguing. Making things beautiful that build up wonder and eye soothing scenes with the diversity of colors is pretty exciting. The art is loaded with history and communicate to universal audience. Making art piece to me very accessible, when it demonstrates considerable thought and consideration even if intuitive, art’s tactile nature is captivating.

Tell us bit about Communication Design?
It is visual communication, which involves in many mediums speeches, logos, painting, graphic designing etc. Communication Design conveys messages and seeks to create desires, inspire, attract and motivate to the people to respond to the particular message. Which can be either to build brand, move sales or for humanitarian purposes, strategic business, creativity and problem solving. They also directed to the heterogeneous public to persuade and to give them awareness transmitted the through effective mediums like Social media, television and printed forms.

.As Communication Design promotes the things; can it not be used as negative in society?
Definitely it plays positive as well as negative role in society, captures the attention of audiences towards the art piece, it is art to promote whatever you want, but in most of advertisements for the sake of product’s sell they used it , due to this reason negative or other things can be promoted.   you can advertise the any product through its endless mediums.

. Despite it, on what aspects of art you work?
I love to work in all fields of art. Work consists on the sculpture, miniature, and painting and art teaching. During study I worked in sculpture, set designing in the Shoaib Mansoor’s song Supreme ishaq. I had made the monument and logo of Mass Communication, Sindh university jamshoro.on international level I work in the logos on the internet. And I used to spend lot of time on the art teaching because it my passion.

.Being an art teacher, do you see any difference in formal teaching as compare to art?
In formal teaching, once you delivered a lecture to fifty students at a time, but in art teaching, we have to give the time to every one student according to their approach and talent, it doesn’t requires cramming but needs creativity and how to explore the things. It is very tough job to do.

. What is the importance of an art in society?
Art is the main tool to show the culture and its importance of any nation. Art pays its major role in the development of society, it is as a trigger to hidden talent, and it gives awareness about the social phenomenon. Through the art we all of came to know the hundreds of thousand years old civilizations. The paintings, Sculpture and architecture of MOEN JO DARO indicate the how it was civilized nation.

.In Pakistan why there is less number of artists?
Its main reason is the financial crises, and there were no any kind of institutes and schools in past, where student would have learnt. Now some institutions have been opened, from there many artists come but they face many problems such as, they have not finance to buy equipments to create art piece, and the major thing they are also restricted to create any creativity in society, hence some of them hardly continue their work and many of them prefers to do other jobs.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists?

My message is for all fields of students that whatever works you do, do it with passion and keen interest, you will surely be successful. One thing remembers that the seat of topper is always vacant, there is need of occupant, so do work hard to occupy it.

Students struggle to get internship in Karach

Students struggle to get internship in Karachi

Article by Farooq Rajper 2k13/mc/39

Internship means a student or recent graduate who works for a period of time in any organization in order to get experience but what happens to students is its opposite.
Nowadays internship has become so necessary to start a well career especially for media students. That’s why every year in summer vacations hundreds of students apply for internships in their relevant fields to get experience and learn technical skills.
Some do for the preparation of their final thesis work, while some do for experience, and skills because it is considered to get a good job.
But to get an internship in any reputed organization is as hard as getting an executive post.
As their exams are ended they rush to send CV’s to relevantorganizations to get allocated. Some organizations respond quickly some don’t respond. Another thing which I saw was that in Karachi organizations don’t want to allow interior students because I and my class mates faced this problem. These are some repliesby organizations “We don’t allow Sindh university students in our channel, we don’t have space to hire internees. We don’t allow any internee in our organization, we have already selected”.
These are the barriers for the talented students to go forward in the practical field, while those who are selected should have the complete basic information about the job before joining the field. Because it would save the time of both the internee and organization, students should show their potential and guts to the organization that they are competent to learn new skills.
It is of extreme importance to be punctual and active during the internship because if one is not sincere with his job can’t learn.
It’s bizarre or may be interesting that if you need an internship you are required to have strong references yeah even for unpaid internship and it has become a trend in our society and has spread in the society like a virus.
Because of it every student can’t get internship that’s why many students are left behind and when these same students are graduated and apply for jobs in these organizations they require experience, and again reference, so here the question arises that where from these things can be acquired, what these deprived students would do that’s why every year a large number of graduates are unemployed and those who have strong references get jobs.
In Sindh University there are 58 departments, and from these IT department, commerce, business administration, and some social science departments need internships and they can’t get.Students of interior Sindh face more problems because in interior Sindh there aren’t any organizations. Almost all industries/organizations are in Karachi, and these organizations are not allowing interior Sindh students for internship.

The fact is that these organizations are not supporting new talent which will cause dreadful results in future. To counter this problem organizations should make some space for the internees every year and should give internship to efficient students. Or universities should collaborate with reputable organizations to allocate their students in organizations for internships.

Mostly government university students face these problems because mostly all internships are allocated to private university students, because private universities are in collaboration with relevant organizations. Now internships should be divided to all universities so that every student can get this golden chance to enter in professional career.

It’s hard to survive as a woman in a society we live in but it’s even harder to
survive as a widow. People do not accept you, it is hard dealing with the people around a widow. Their advice, insensitive comments and pointless conversations.

Being a widow is like a woman has lost a right to laugh, dress up and look beautiful. But here is a woman who fought all the evils in the society she protected her 3 children and survived. She is now a language teacher and Scouts and Girl Guides mistress at St.bonaventures High School Qasimabad, also a writer of six books in Sindhi language, social activist and an amazing artist who makes handmade stuff. She calls sewing machine her best friend.

She was the only female who managed to come to Hyderabad from her small village JindoDero district Shikarpur for further studies. She completed her B.Edfrom Sindh University Old Campus Hyderabad.

She is the woman with the most beautiful and smiling eyes. Her eyes will tell you everything about her life. Her soft hands will tell you how generous and kind she has been all her life. Her calm and steady personality will tell you about her act of humanity. Her simplicity and captivating grace will never let you take your eyes off her. She believes in giving to those who are needy. Being rich in not what you have in your bank account but what’s in your heart she says. She never celebrates any occasion alone. She distributes Eidi, cloths , toys and many other stuff made by her own hands to poor kids of different schools and orphanage houses. She has a non-paid, volunteer organization named after her late husband “Tahir Wafai welfare organization” which helps the poor and the needy.

This organization has recently distributed used stuff to ILM JO SOJHORO primary school and eidi gifts to SOS Village Jamshoro including toys. Bags, shoes, cushions. She also arranges exhibitions. Online Gaming!!

“Tell fast, fail fast, adjust fast it’s a part of game Life is more fun if you play games  But You have been killed by overconfidence"
F2P (Free to play) Online gaming is one of the most popular diversion activity  on the www (World Wide Web) as broadband Internet connectivity becomes cheaper and more accessible with each passing year, the phenomenon of Online Gaming keeps getting more widespread and more creative. Progressivelyits gets more rating and viewing from all over the world.
These days, gaming technology has progressed to an amazing extent. Things like streaming 3-D animation graphics with superb surround sound stereo now have the ability to make us all addicted to gaming
Online Gaming, like any other new technology, slowly start and then it’ll diverted your mind ,start free if you win you’ll get points or free coins, through these wining point or coins you can continue your game free but if you lose your game then you have to pay for again playing. Now, these F2P games become more updated , if you see before some years ago F2P games through laptop , internet and now it’s also available on android mobile in which you can install, uninstall , reinstall and update any game any time for free from play store or some on paid.
Today it is  leading pastime among the young generations across cultures as well as across geographical boundaries.F2P (free to play) online games is more effective and essential for new generation because once they start playing their mind, thinking and memory start increasing its prove good thing for entertainment but where you see a lucre of this, here is an also big loss of it and that is peoples are  become a couch of potato of these games due to this new generation are not able to give proper time to their studies moreover  their family. Look an example how it affected on youth? We see in past when parent wanted to call their child they just called their names but now parent want to call their child they first have to turn off the Wi-Fi.
Around 1969, the earliest games activates originated, but they started gaining in popularity only around late 1970s and early 1980s when Dial-up Bulletin Boards became popular, and the users started playing online games over them. These bulletin boards provided a multi-user platform, so they became the earliest base for multi-user games, which have finally transformed into what is today popularly known all over the world as the "MMORPG" (Massively Multi-player Online Role-Playing Games).

Afterwards in 1980 Commercial Online Services were introduced, and gradually interactive online games started being offered to the users as an added attraction with these services.

In the 1990s, with the evolution of advanced Internet technologies such as Flash and Java led to an explosion in the usage of Internet, with millions of new websites mushrooming across the World Wide Web, offering great opportunities for interactive computing to the users.
Here is a brief timeline of the evolution of online gaming:

1969: PLATO Internet Service offers a 2-player "Space War" online game. By 1972, the service was able to host over a thousand users simultaneously.
1970 to 1977: Many more multi-player games appear on the PLATO service.
1979-1980: Essex University, U.K. hosts the first classic "MUD" game on its system.
1982-1983:Kesmai Corporation is established to develop an ASCII role-playing online game. Their first game "Mega Wars" is launched in 1983.
1983-1993: Many new games are launched as the popularity of online gaming picks up momentum.
1994-1995: Sony releases its PlayStation and Nintendo 64 is launched around the same time.
1997: Sony sells its 20 millionth PlayStation.
1998-2008: Sony's PlayStation, Microsoft's X-box Live, and the Japanese company Nintendo create some of the world's most popular online games that attract an unprecedented number of new users to the world of online gaming.

This led to a revolution in the field of online gaming as the number of younger web users increased, and they charged up the demand for online games across the Asian, American, and European continents. Many online gaming sites offered services against paid subscription like first you have to paid money through credit card then you’ll allow to play game, while many other sites started offering free gaming usage in order to enhance their web crowd and earn advertising revenues.
Online Games are the most popular apps on smartphones, and developers need to plan for this. These gaming trends will continue into 2015 and beyond. Game developers need to be prepared for these shifts, so they can benefit from opportunities that will arise from industry growth.
“When I get bored and nothing to do then I start to playing my favorites online game because anything is better than nothing.” Said by A 3rd class student Muhammad Taha.

Eventually, technological giants such as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo came out with advanced gaming consoles and some fascinating gaming software that changed the face of online gaming forever. The market for online gaming has boomed since then all over the world, with millions of new users getting added every year.
