                             Regal book bazaar
                            By Ibrahim Buriro

There is lot of people going through piles of books, indulged in picking and leaving them back, some are looking at table of the contents thoroughly. Others moving slowly through street eying to find there a book of their choice. Looking at the price everyone tries to fetch as much as possibly he can afford. This is none other than Regal book Bazaar, which take place on Sundays. Regal chowk is at Saddar town Karachi.  Most of the vendors spread sheets on the ground and place books on them. Busy in dealing with customers, because its morning and most of the people come early as possible to grab their favourite ones, I any how managed to ask from one of the vendors from how long this Book Bazaar taking place. “It’s older than you son”. Just replying this he gets back to his business.
It’s don’t take place exactly on Regal chowk but two lanes ahead from it. Inside the street you will find both sides of street full of books, mostly spread on sheets, and footpath. Street in not cleaned as monsoon showered this week every often. There are piles of books ranging from Urdu to English mostly and some Sindhi as well. In this Street, originally these are electronic shops but on Sunday all shops are closed, so these book sellers find good opportunity to bring their stalk. “We usually buy these books on rupees per kilo” said Arshad who have quite impressive number of books in his stalk, from Sidney Sheldon’s novels to Philip k Haiti’s history of Arabs. As I was walking ahead a young man probably university student inquire for the price of the history of Arabs from seller. 200 hundred gets reply. And you will be astonished, 700 hundred pages book on two hundred rupees only!
You will feel that there will be no place for cheaper for books than Regal book bazaar. For some, this is a part time job but, most of these vendors living on selling books on footpath to make their ends meet. As you enter into street there is plenty of books, digging through piles of books to find your favourite genre, involve passion at Regal book bazaar, because lane is so long and grabbing for your favourite one will take time and it can be an exhausted process, but surely book lovers won’t mind, as there was lots of people indulged in the process. Although there is lot of books in English but this is best place for Urdu literature, there is collection of novels, from Quratul ain Haider to Ishfaque Ahmed. In humour, from Ibne Insha to Mushtaque Yousifi, and in poetry Ghalib to Habib Jalib, sab milta hai yahan. Going further there is sharbat wala if you want to stop for few minutes and enjoy sharbat to regain your energy, because it’s only a start, there is plenty ahead.
20 mien le 20 mien le lo, this voice will echo in your mind, throughout the street. A 12 year boy having Suzuki full of books will attract you nonetheless, although there you will find hardly a master piece but children’s literature is in abundance. And if you want to buy some books for children with illustration this is the place. And it’s important because science says those who read at young age do better in their life than those who don’t. Attracting children towards reading is the best gift you can give to them at their age.  Most of the books available here are cheap paperback old and new and some pirated. And prices ranging from 20, 30, and 50 mostly. Urdu literature’s master pieces cost not more than 200 hundred. From piles of books I found out my favourite English cricket commentator and former test player Michael Atherton’s biography. And there is sheer joy in finding your favourite things, sometimes price don’t matter. Other genres include philosophy, history, poetry, and cook books, old magazines such as national geographic and Urdu digests.  Farooque a frequent visitor at Regal book bazaar says he came from Sindh University all here to grab his part. “You see I love reading, my favourite writers Dostoevsky’s crime and punishment to Lazely Hazilton’s after the prophet, are easily available and I love being here and books are much cheaper than rest of Karachi and Hyderabad”. Other thing I wanted to add was variety of books available there.
Khushwant Singh once wrote that rather than restaurants and cinema houses, the ultimate litmus of town’s sophistication is the number of books shops it has, and the kind of they stalk. Books like Maut ka Manzar and Qabar Ka Azab are best sellers in Pakistan but scenario at the Regal book bazaar is different, these kind of books are rare here. But Karachi has its own image despite last decade in violence and disturbance, Karachi has managed home to various book publishers and second hand book trade is at its peak.  All of the book lovers are well aware that they are in tiny minority, reading is in serious decline after the computer, mobile’s invention. But internet especially after the 3G people most of time majority of the people spend time surfing Facebook and other social media sites, book reading is not so common. But seeing crowds at the places like Regal book bazaar, Frere hall etc. One feels things are not dark as we might feel. Reading nourishes individual it’s one of the most beautiful and fruitful skills humans achieved after forming civilization. So if you are planning to buy books, Karachi is heaven for book lovers, starting with Regal book bazaar, a great place to get food for mind.

Article: Why Only Some Professions Are Respectable For Girls
Uroosa Anwer Rajput
We are living in 21st century where we mostly hear a famous saying that girls are equal as boys or girls are being treated equally like boys… or there is no difference between a girl or a boy working in any field,, but  is this really a fact??? I think the reality is opposite it. We girls to whom every thing is concern nothing can be happened without our involvement but still we are not treating like the same worth as the boys are going to treat in every field or profession.
In Pakistan,  women are considered as low potential than males, though Pakistan is an Islamic country and Islam gives parallel positions for males and females , but the thing is that on the bases of consequences, on the basis of physical fitness and on the bases of social conditions females are not considered, not allow to progress as the man. It is the society rules,, society made the restriction for women they make boundaries for women that women are restricted for doing only some professions. This is our society which do not allow the girls  to do any kind of job because when the women going outside for work she faces many difficulties. The society created that kind of conditions around females that females not feel comfort in that environment. These consequences  are harassment, hooting, shooting etc lay down the moral of lady according to requirements of professions we girls are consider as they are not fulfill the requirements of the profession like athlete, sports, engineer, forestry etc because the girls are consider as very sensitive , delicate, emotional.
Females is not wiser like male, the society thinks that women have less wisdom.
Mostly we hear that for girls teaching is the bet the best profession , while it comes to field work or office work then the minds of our so cold peoples become change, those girls who are working in offices or doing any field work they consider them as not the worthy or respective as a girl should worth respect  or should be valued,,
The basic reason behind this discrimination is just the negative thinking of our society or the inhabitants of society which we called as an educated society,, even after being educated still the people are failed to mold their thinking  about such a common issue which just require common sense I think…. And still we are demanding that we want progress or we want to make Pakistan as a developed nation so how could it can be possible that except indulging 53% of your country’s population , making it aside and  demanding for development.. how could even one can think like that when a country’s 53% population is just confined to a single profession so how’s the rest population can take the country single handedly towards development.
Women or females faces many difficulties in many profession except teaching or where the male community is dominating.. the men usually harrest them. They don’t feel protective   there, the girls are not provided with the confidence as they require to have while working with male community they just treated their as the best time passer or the attraction of their department.
Lets take a glance at the professional life of developed countries there the  girls are treating the same as the boys in the professional field there is no restriction for the girls that they can’t move in this or that field there are the same rules for both and same limitations for both of them even if we are going to take the example of the developed country China the girls are working with the boys in the same proportion even they work on garage shops for repairing the cars or motor bikes, all the developed nations allowed their women to work in same proportion with the same worth and respect because they are treated like a professional in every field whether it is garage shop or any Multinational company a bank or any business administration or any government office.. any nation who is willing to be developed rather than keep on striving its status as developing nation it should take their girls in front and provide them the all facilities and security and confidence.
Our government should even focus on while they are going to announce any vacancies they just going to give the male and female quota as total 30 seat 25 for men and 2 for minorities and 3 for women quota so see the difference and discrimination over here so how could we be the developed nation soon as we are keep on doing that type of differences between gender or we keep on doing the gender inequality. It’s our responsibility also that we should protest against such discrimination.
According to the World Bank’s 2012 World Development Report: Gender Equality and Development, closing these gender gaps matters for development and policymaking. Greater gender equality can enhance economic productivity, improve development outcomes for the next generation, and make institutions and policies more representative.
We should change the thinking point of view and should treat the girls as professionals not as a point of attraction, a charm of their office and shouldn’t take the benefit of their innocence or presence.
We should provide the women confidence and security that their confidence increases and they feel comfortable to work in any profession and the man should cooperate with her because they have other responsibilities also like house hold tasks… so we should encourage them and make them feel ease so that they can handle all their responsibilities either personal or professionals more deligently and to bring women in all professions thoroughly claim that the development and empowering the economy of the country.
