One who enters in the Khudabad Mosque once,
he finds himself disappear. It is not because of that there are tunnels and
caves, but he disappears in his thoughts to see such a great architecture, art,
and elegance of this Mosque. Its work and designs on bricks, stones and
peaceful environment that compel people to forget themselves.
Apart from this, Sindh is the famous for its monuments and numerous
old historical places which are the parts of its history and cultural heritage.
In Sindh, there are a number of places which are worth seeing. Among those
places ‘the Khudabad Mosque’ is also one of them. It is situated at Khudabad
city (district Dadu), on the right side of Indus Highway and the total area of
the Khudabad Mosque is less than one acre. It is away from Dadu such a few
Kilometers in southern side.
Three hundred years old Khudabad Mosque was built by the ruler of
Sindh, Mian Yar Mohammad Kalhoro(1701-18), when the Khudabad was the capital
city of Sindh. Khudabad mosque is very vast and spacious by its area that more
than 5,000 people could pray at a time. Along with it, Khudabad Mosque served
as a school and place for military training as well. When one enters in the
Khudabad Mosque there he will find a main gate, two galleries, one on the left and
other on the right side, a huge hall and the big compound wall which surrounds
the mosque.
Now a days, the Khudabad Mosque is suffering from deplorable
condition and bit by bit its walls and arch is damaging. It remains inattentive
by the government of Sindh since many years.
In 2009 work on protection wall, Wazu khana, CC road was started
at a cost of Rs: 10 million. It was an Rs 28 million three year project and one
main dome had been restored successfully that collapsed in 1994-95 rains.
Substandard work was carried out, and the Department of Archeology Sindh
constituted as committee of experts. Earlier, in 1975,
Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto had given 20,000 rupees to repair the Khudabad mosque,
when its dome was demolished. The Sindh government should take such measures in
order to protect an old legacy of Sindh from further damage.
Especially, you will find there a great number of visitors on
the occasion of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s Urs Mubarak. The people who
usually come from far and wide to visit and get enjoyed to see such an
exquisite and prodigious mosque.
A resident of Khudabad M.Bakshal told that it is very
beautiful and spacious mosque around this area. Its elegance and architecture
fascinates the people and compel them to visit. Furthermore, he told there is a
hearsay about Khudabad Mosque that the mason who had constructed this mosque,
he had made a mysterious room for himself. In which he remained one week and no
one could find him that where was he. Finally, he left a tiny hole, where from
a fly was entering in and out of the room. By this mistake he was found and his
one hand was cut off as a punishment.
